Private Music Lessons

Our students take private weekly lessons in piano or guitar.  Lesson length (30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 1 hour) depends on the age and maturity of the student.  Lessons are also offered in music theory and composition for those interested.  A certain amount of music theory, however, is always incorporated into private piano or guitar lessons.

It is very important for parents to be involved with the young student’s lessons.  At least until the teen years a parent should attend the lessons and supervise practice at home.  It is not necessary for the the parent to be musically trained.

We maintain a sizeable adult clientele and welcome adult students of any age.  It’s never too late!

Group Classes

We offer weekend group classes during the school year.  They are complimentary to anyone talking private lessons with us.  In addition we welcome parents and visitors.  This is sometimes an excellent way to get to know our studio.  Students are divided into groups by age and advancement and given a chance to play for each other in a gentle, supportive environment.  One of the most rewarding features of these classes is ensemble playing. This is a great opportunity for parents to “get in on the act” playing duets with the student.  Both Jennifer and Spencer attended these classes and so the student gets the benefit of two teachers’ input.  We find that this prepares the student very well for the studio recitals.

Student Recitals

We usually hold three student recitals during the school year at local venues.  The public is invited.  We do not require our students to play in recital.  However, we find that most of our students look forward to recital performance.  In order to play, a student must demonstrate mastery of his/her piece in group class.  The only charge is a modest fee to help defray the cost of hall rental.
